Is Electric Heating the Future?

electric heating

When you install a new cutting edge German electric heating system with Greener Energy Group you will be securing the latest in home heating technology and ensuring that your home is primed for the energy revolution.

For years, gas central heating has dominated the UK home heating industry. Gas is currently cheaper to use than electric and when many people think of electric heating, they picture old-fashioned inefficient storage heaters which are inefficient and unresponsive.

New technology has brought electric heating into the 21st century, however, while gas central heating systems have barely changed in decades.

With legislation limiting fossil fuel usage in the UK, gas central heating is under threat, and it is likely that fuel prices will continue to rise meaning the one consistent economic advantage of gas heating over electric could soon disappear.

Modern Electric heating systems are more sustainable than gas and oil, smarter, more customisable, interactive, and are compatible with a range of renewable energy solutions which are becoming more and more commonplace in UK homes.

This post will explain all these benefits and more, demonstrating exactly why electric heating is the future of home heating in the UK.

Electric heating is more sustainable

Electric heating is a more sustainable and environmentally friendly form of home heating than oil or gas systems.

Around 40% of mains electricity produced currently produces carbon emissions. Compared to the 100% of gas heating which produces emissions, electric heating is already far more sustainable than gas.

As the Government looks to invest more in more sustainable energy sources for electricity production this gap is only going to widen and if you want to help reduce your carbon footprint, electric heating Scotland is the way forward.

Greener Energy Group’s industry leading German Electric Heating can easily be combined with renewable energy sources such as solar panels and air-source heat pumps.

If you choose to have such a system installed in the future, or you already have one in place, you will be able to benefit from cheaper electric as well as emission free heat throughout your home.

Legislation

More and more restrictions are being placed on the burning of fossil fuels in the UK as the Government attempts to meet its pledges to reach net zero.

In 2020, Prime Minister Boris Johnson committed to ending taxpayer support for overseas fossil fuel projects.

The Committee on Climate Change has also put a major question over the future of gas heating, pledging that by 2025 no new homes will be connected to the gas grid, and financial incentives will be provided to developers who choose eco-conscious systems.

Given that around 19% of the UK’s fossil fuel emissions come from home heating systems it is likely that there will be a tariff rise on gas usage to try and encourage people to switch to more sustainable systems. This means that although your monthly heating bill may be slightly higher in the short-term by switching to electric this may well change in the near future.

Electric Lasts Longer

Electric heating systems last up to 50% longer than gas systems. Given that in a few years it may well be difficult to buy a new gas boiler and expensive to service and maintain it, with many energy companies beginning to specialise in renewables, is a slight reduction in your monthly fuel bill really worth the sacrifice?

By installing an electric heating system with Greener Energy Group, you will be securing yourself years of sustainable and consistent heating with very little ongoing maintenance costs.

Burglar Alarms as a Deterrent

burglar alarms

Many people are looking for ways to keep their home safe and protected from burglars and criminals. Burglar alarms are an increasingly popular choice for home security, providing a fantastic way to keep your home safe. Indeed, with a modern alarm system, you can gain access to an effective deterrent which will stop criminals from even attempting to access your home – saving you a lot of time, money, and stress.

In some cases, a burglar alarm is necessary to acquire insurance for the home, making it a necessary purchase. As such, if it’s necessary to get an alarm, you might as well get the best choice. The long-term benefits are serious.

In this article we’ll discuss the benefits offered by the protection provided by Burglar Alarms, and how they can keep your home safe.

How do Burglar Alarms Deter Burglars?

Burglars collectively agree a home which is equipped with a security system is the kind of property they’d avoid. The police estimate a home with a visible security system is 84% less likely to be targeted. Indeed, former burglars consistently report that a home equipped with a visible security set-up.

The logic behind this is simple; the presence of a security system increases the chances of not only being detected but being caught and prosecuted. One study found that 60% of former burglars would look for the presence of an alarm system if they were attempting to enter a home. If they detected one, they would move onto another home.

Burglars primarily look for vulnerable targets which are easy to steal from and don’t pose any serious issues. A property equipped with alarms is not an easy target since it carries with it the risk of detection and prosecution.

Modern alarm systems are incredibly effective at detecting burglars and will quickly alert your own home, as well as anyone nearby, of the dangers. They will also alert the police, which is the worst possible situation for a criminal to find themselves in.

The visible presence of Burglar alarms Glasgow as such can do a massive amount to keep your property safe from potential criminal activity. Combining a burglar alarm system with other measures, such as security cameras and signs, can further improve the overall safety of your home.

Burglar Alarms provide help even if they do not deter criminals

Even in the worst situation in which a criminal break into your home, the alarm going off will cause many criminals to immediately flee. Burglars have no desire to be caught or detected,

Avoid ‘DIY’ and Dummy Alarms

There are two things to avoid when it comes to Burglar Alarms: DIY options, and Dummy Alarms.

A popular option on the market are off-the-shelf alarm systems.

These alarms do not provide the same kind of effective protection as professional burglar alarms, and any professional burglar will be able to recognise this almost immediately. Even amateur thieves will be able to recognise systems as being less comprehensive. Many of these DIY options are relatively easy to sabotage as well; the simpler a system, the more likely it can be subject to sabotage. These cannot be relied upon to protect the home.

Another option which has become popular are ‘dummy’ alarm systems, taking the form of fake ‘bell boxes.’ The maxim of ‘any protection is better than none’ is unfortunately totally false; not only will a professional burglar be able to easily spot if a system is real or not but will likely be more interested in a property with fake protection. An experienced burglar will assume a home with fake protection is unprotected.

Furthermore, fake deterrents don’t offer the same kind of projection against fires, and other emergency situations.

Professional Alarms guarantee safety

In the worst-case scenario in which a criminal activity does occur, then a professional alarm is the best option you have for keeping your property safe.

Professional alarms offer serious protection in the form of alerting the authorities to a break in and ensuring a police response. These options for professional monitoring, in which any tripped alarms will see a police presence on your property asap, makes professional alarm systems far superior to any DIY option.

Professional alarms cannot be subject to the simple sabotage a non-professional alarm can. Many simple ‘DIY’ alarms can be easily unplugged, and in some cases even remotely accessed.

Other Benefits provided by a Burglar Alarm

But burglar alarm systems provide a wealth of other serious benefits which shouldn’t be forgotten. As well as deterring criminals, they provide,

  • A sense of peace of mind, knowing your home is kept safe and criminals are kept away from your property
  • An instant response from the police
  • A safer environment overall

How to clean Upholstery

Acorn Upholstery Cleaning

Upholstery like our sofas, armchairs, and other furniture are a key part of our homes. They are our places of comfort and create a distinct visual style. But our constant use of them results in all manner of grime getting tracked into their fabric; animal hair, crumbs, food, and other mess can easily end up the appearance of your furniture over time.

In this article we’ll discuss the steps necessary for cleaning up upholstery.

Checking the label – a key step

The most important step is in checking the label of the upholstery. This will tell you what kind of cleaning products can be used. Misuse of products can result in the creation or worsening of existing stains, dye spills, and other unsightly marks. As such its key to use the correct materials. Commonly, the labels are marked as following,

  • W: This means you can only use water-based cleaners
  • S/P: Dry clean only.
  • SW/WS: This means that both water-based detergent and or solvent cleaners are usable. Steam cleaners are fine in this case as well.
  • X:  This cannot be subject to any kind of water or detergent; it’s best you get Acorn to professionally clean this for you and save you a lot of trouble and get the best results possible.

Getting rid of ‘surface’ dirt

It’s best to begin by removing any throws and cushions and checking the sides and back of the sofa for any wrappers, loose change, or other objects that might’ve slid into them. This will make the whole process much easier. If it is a fabric sofa, ensure your vacuum is properly fitted with the upholstery attachment; this is necessary to ensure it doesn’t get damaged. If your sofa is leather, use a brush attachment; this guarantees the leather won’t end up getting scratched or scuffed.

Slowly and gently suck up the crumbs, dirt, and grime which have accumulated. Using a slow, ‘sweeping’ movement is best. Ensure you use a ‘crevice’ attachment to get any dirt or grime out. It’s important to clean the seams as well.

Vinegar

A surprising option for cleaning the couch is vinegar. White vinegar is a great stain remover, and indeed is basically a perfect natural stain remover for most types of upholstery.

Vinegar can be used to ‘blot’ stains by using a mix of equal parts water and vinegar, before using a microfibre cloth to wipe away the stain. A solution of detergent and water should then be used to remove the smell.

This is great to do if a stain has just happened; in general, the best approach to stains is to handle them as they emerge – rather than later after they’ve ‘sunk in’ to a surface.

Odours

Odours can be dealt with in several ways – but these are dependent on the material the sofa or upholstery is made from.

Upholstered sofas should be vacuumed (with a brush attachment) to remove all the hair and dirt. Cushions should be removed too. After this is done, baking soda should be sprinkled onto the upholstered areas of the sofa. The baking soda should be left for 20 minutes (but overnight is good for handling serious odours). The baking soda works by absorbing the odour. It can then be hoovered up.

In the case of leather, any spills which can produce an odour should be wiped up ASAP. Ensure it is wiped dry.

A teaspoon of liquid neutral soap and a single cup of water should be combined and used to wipe down the sofa – focussing on the smell area. Only small areas should be cleaned at a time.

Getting the professionals in

At some, it’s just a lot easier to get professionals in.

There’s a good reason professional upholstery cleaning is a big industry; it’s demanding to clean upholstery. Sofas can be sensitive and using the wrong products or wrong methods can result in disaster. Not to mention, the quality of professional equipment and training is far, far higher than that which can be found at the supermarket or online.

If you want to save yourself time, effort, and a lot of potential stress. How to be a Great Security Guard

Security-guards

There is no-one with more responsibility at any business, construction site, or major event than security guards.

They must ensure the safety of the property and people they are charged with protecting whilst always acting with the utmost professionalism.

Reputable security companies are putting their reputation on the line every time they provide a security guard for any job and as such will only hire the very best.

Prime Secure have been one of the UK’s leading providers of security officers for over 25 years but exactly what qualities are essential to becoming a great security guard?

Awareness

The best security guards are always alert and observing their surroundings for suspicious behaviour or potential incidents.

Losing their concentration for even a moment could cause their employees, property or staff to come to harm.

Security guards should not only be aware of the behaviour of the people in their immediate surroundings but also analyse the property itself for potential weaknesses.

When conducting their patrols, officers should always be observing their surroundings to identify and access points which are not well secured and that an intruder could target.

They will also check for any areas which are not covered by CCTV, or which require more lighting at night and make extensive and informed recommendations on how their employer can maximise their security.

As a leading provider of bespoke CCTV systems Prime Secure’s security staff are all trained to utilise CCTV to maximise the effectiveness of their protection services and to help them respond quicker to incidents.

Strong morals

Security guards must balance being a powerful figure deterring criminals with being an approachable and personable presence when in employment.

It is the fundamental duty of security guards to act in the best interests of their employers and their employers’ customers.

They must not disclose any personal or confidential information that they may handle during their time in a post and must not let personal opinions or prejudice affect their professionalism.

A security guard’s uniform should inspire confidence and trust in staff and members of the public, and as a guard you should always be working to earn that trust.

As such they should remain courteous and respectful when carrying out their duties even in face of rude behaviour or confrontation.

All Prime Secure’s SIA accredited guards are fully trained in crowd management and conflict resolution so they will stay calm at all times in high emotion situations and always look for a peaceful solution whenever possible.

Fitness

Being a security guard is a challenging and physically demanding job.

Good security staff will keep themselves in good shape at all times with regular exercise to ensure they are prepared for whatever comes their way.

If a guard is unfit, then they may not be able to perform essential duties like pursuing criminals and breaking up fights.

It is also important that a guard is strong in stature in order to act as a deterrent to criminals, so being out of shape physically is really not an option.

Just as physical health is important, a great security guard needs to be in top shape mentally to perform to a high standard.

Security guards are often the face of a business, manning the front desk, checking credentials, and being available and approachable should an emergency situation arise.

They, therefore, need to be polite and know exactly where to direct people in emergencies, as well as needing to memorise extensive security protocols so they are primed to react to any eventuality.

Communication Skills

Good communication is vital to success in any role which involves working with people.

For security guards being able to be gracious and respectful is essential when dealing with situations which could easily escalate into a violent incident.

Good written communication skills are also very important for guards who will have to provide detailed reports on any incident of note that took place whilst they were on duty.

Their employees may also request an analysis of how they can improve their security systems and any weaknesses that the guard has noticed during his patrols.

Prime Secure’s SIA accredited security guards undergo extensive training to ensure they possess these qualities and many more.

As a UK wide company, who has been providing professional security guards for over 25 years, we have a national reach backed by the local knowledge of our operatives who are always on hand to fulfil all your security needs.
